College Board grants this recognition to high-achieving African American and Hispanic students who scored in the top 10% on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 within program by state, earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP exams, and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Students can include this academic honor on college and scholarship applications to help them connect with colleges and universities across the nation and stand out in the admissions process.

Physical Therapy Student Gets ASAHP Scholarship of Excellence

Haley Sweeney

Haley Sweeney, fourth-year physical therapy student in the Hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy program at NSU’s Tampa campus recently received a Scholarship of Excellence Award from the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP).

Sweeney is originally from Wentzville, Mo., and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2014.

She says she had a passion for continuing her education in order to best serve her athletes and went on to pursue her Master of Science in Exercise Physiology at the University of Central Florida. After working as a collegiate athletic trainer for a few years, she found that her favorite part of her job was taking the athletes through the rehabilitation process.

Through her experiences, she was drawn to continuing her education and obtaining her doctorate degree in physical therapy in order to make a larger impact. Her goal upon graduation is to work in sports medicine, helping athletes of all ages and stages of life recover from injury in order to live an active and fulfilling life.

2022 Immigration Legal Screening Service Project, Oct. 16

NSU Law is partnering with the College of PsychologyAmericans for Immigrant JusticeCatholic Legal Services, Office of New Americans, Florida Immigrant CoalitionHaitian Lawyers Association, and Hispanic Unity to provide free immigration legal screenings on Sunday, October 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Shepard Broad College of Law Atrium.

With the help of partnering student organizations including: the Evening Law Student Association (ELSA), the Immigration Law Organization (ILO), the Student Wellness at Nova Law (SWAN) and the Public Interest Law Society (PILS); this pro bono immigration clinic will offer participants the chance to learn more about how immigration law affects them and their families with Know Your Rights Presentations. Participants will have the opportunity to receive a free consultation with an immigration attorney. This free consultation will be used to determine whether participants in the clinic are eligible for any immigration relief and legal representation.

College of Law 2022 Second Chance Service Project, Oct. 22

NSU Law is partnering with the College of Psychology, the College of Dental Medicine, the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Florida Justice Center are partnering to provide free legal services and supportive services to the community on Saturday, October 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Shepard Broad College of Law Atrium.

With the help of partnering student organizations including: the Evening Law Student Association (ELSA), the Public Interest Law Society (PILS), the Criminal Law Society (CLS) and Student Wellness at Nova Law (SWAN); this pro bono one-day service project will offer participants the chance to obtain free assistance on legal issues including: bail assistance, clemency, criminal defense, driver license reinstatement, early termination of probation, modification of terms of supervision, sealing and expungement, technical probation violations, voting rights restoration, and warrant assistance.

Virtual Event: ‘Humans 2.0: The Ethical Controversy of Human Upgrades,’ Oct. 19

The NSU Center for Applied Humanities and Lifelong Learning Institute Members Advisory Committee are proud to co-sponsor an upcoming virtual event, “Humans 2.0: The Ethical Controversy of Human Upgrades,” on Wednesday, October 19, from 7 to 9 p.m.

This collaborative event, which brings together the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences and the Kirin C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, features a debate between noted transhumanism scholars, James Hughes, Ph.D. (University of Massachusetts) and Susan Levin, Ph.D. (Smith College), as they consider the pros and cons of biotechnological enhancement.
