Sharks Spread Joy to the Rick and Rita Case Boys & Girls Club

Nearing the end of the holiday season with the community in mind, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) led the way as the NSU Athletics Department collected and donated more than 100 toys to the children at the Rick & Rita Case Boys and Girls Club. Earlier this week, the men’s and women’s basketball teams traveled to the club to deliver the toys, spending about an hour chatting and playing with the kids.

Here is what a couple of the NSU student-athletes had to say about their experience:

Sarah Kelly – Women’s Basketball
“It was an awesome experience to actually meet the kids we collected the toys for. Seeing how excited they were that we were there was priceless!”

Mike Moore – Men’s Basketball
“It was a great experience to be able to give back to the community and see how much of an impact we can make in a child’s life. It excited me, and gave me a warm feeling to see them all so happy. One kid I will remember is Jose. The minute I walked in, he came straight up to me and we instantly connected. Before we passed out the gifts, he asked for the soccer ball so I made sure to save it just for him. We spent the rest of the time together playing games and having fun.”

Felipe Souza – Men’s Basketball
“When I was in middle school, I was a part of the Boys & Girls Club! Coming back as a college athlete, and seeing how much of an impact we made, was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had.”

Jordan Tully – Women’s Basketball
“Overall it was an awesome experience! Too often we get wrapped up in our own lives so it was nice to spend time in our community, specifically at the Boys and Girls Club. The kids were awesome and hopefully we can work something out so they can not only meet us but come support us at our home games.”
