Sharks Close Out Florida Tech on the Road for 12th Consecutive Win

Presentation1There was one team head coach Jim Crutchfield had yet to beat in his two seasons within the Sunshine State Conference – not anymore. Despite shooting a season-low 37.5 percent from the field, No. 5 Nova Southeastern was able to rely on its defense Saturday night to eventually run away with an 82-62 victory on the road at Florida Tech. The Sharks turned 27 Panther turnovers into 35 points, while also receiving a huge boost off the bench from junior Mikkel Kolstad, who poured in a season-high 22 points in 24 minutes of action. And also, Connor Zinaich not only won his second consecutive SSC Player of the Week Award, but also his second straight USBWA National Player of the WeekThe men’s basketball team remain ranked No. 5 and are now 12-0. FULL RELEASE

This past fall Nova Southeastern University Aquatics participated and won the first ever City of Fort Lauderdale Lifeguard Competition.  The competition was held at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic complex, home to International Swimming Hall of Fame.  NSU Aquatics convincingly outperformed five other participating municipalities and YMCA lifeguard teams to be awarded the honor.  The competition consisted of a series of scenarios in which the teams had to respond appropriately to various emergencies. There were water and land-based emergencies varying from pump room accidents, active drownings, multi-victim rescues, CPR/AED response, as well as head, neck, and spinal injuries.  NSU Aquatics had participated in many competitions before, only to come up just short on various occasions. But under the new direction of aquatic coordinator Rialto Heller and assistant director Austin Harris, they were finally able to win it all. The NSU Aquatics Institute prides itself in being a leader in aquatic education and the performance of their lifeguard team clearly exemplified the ideals instilled in each of their staff members to exceed industry standards.

The NSU Aquatics Institute is a leading industry provider of “training with excellence” for aquatic education and management. A catalogue of courses can be found at www.nsuaquatics.com.  For more information on the NSU Aquatics Institute please contact Austin Harris at aharris1@nova.edu.
