Recently, our community has been devastated by natural disasters, incidents at schools, fatal bridge collapses, suicides, pressures of everyday life, and many more events which affect our mental health. Research shows that one in five people struggle with some form of mental health issues, yet less than half will seek any form of treatment due to stigma. Mental health has been linked to physical health and social wellbeing, highlighting the importance of optimal wellness. NSU has a long history of studying and developing innovative programs and curricula for those struggling with mental health issues and concerns, driving innovation coupled with community outreach, research, and direct service programs in multi-disciplinary settings.
NSU’s collaborative approach includes experts from the Brief Therapy Institute, Psychology Services Center, Mailman Segal Center, College of Psychology, and College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Stable Place, and the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Today, we have over 30 clinics and programs that specialize in a variety of concerns from therapy, counseling, assessment/testing, family relationships, for children, families, couples, and individuals for all ages.
You are not alone in this journey. NSU is here to help.
We encourage NSU students, faculty, staff, and alumni to wear lime green on Friday, May 10, in recognition of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day and Mental Health Awareness Month. Join our clinics for the 2nd Annual Optimizing Mental Wellness Expo, May 11, 2019. RSVP at: www.nova.edu/dra/events. Share your participation by posting photos on social media of you, your friends, and coworkers wearing lime green, using the hashtag #NSUCureStigma!
