CAHSS to host Inclusive Conversations on March 24

NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is pleased to invite you to the next Inclusive Conversations on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, from 12:30-1:20 p.m. The topic is “Women in Academia: Shared Burdens and Strategies for Success.” The faculty facilitators will be Kathleen Waites, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Literature and Modern Languages in CAHSS and Ariann Robino, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Counseling in NSU’s College of Psychology.

From pay disparity to work-life balance to preferential treatment of male colleagues, women’s experiences in academia are often microcosms of broader social issues shared by women in other fields. However, female academics face unique challenges given the misguided assumption that the university is an enlightened place that engenders sex equality. This conversation will provide space for examining individual experiences within an historical and meaningful context. We will explore current research and consider how women in academia might, individually and collectively, address their shared challenges.
