Sharks Selected as No.2 Seed in NCAA South Super Regional

To the surprise of very few, the Nova Southeastern women’s golf team will once again have a chance to compete for a national championship after being picked as the No. 2 seed to come out of the south region on Monday. The nation’s third-ranked program is among the 48 teams chosen to participate in super regional play as part of the 2019 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships, with the NCAA South Super Regional set to tee off Monday, May 6 at the Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Tenn. FULL RELEASE

Program-Best No.3 National Ranking

The 2019 Nova Southeastern Sharks women’s tennis squad has made some historic moves this season in several facets under third-year head coach Doug Neagle – from delivering the best season since 2007, to a 12-win turnaround from 2018, to the first victory over Barry in 10 seasons and a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Championship final appearance. However, the Sharks aren’t done just yet and the effort has been recognized with a program-best No. 3 national ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). FULL RELEASE

NSU Headed to Back to Regionals

In his first full season as head coach, Joey Marino has the Nova Southeastern men’s golf team back in the postseason, as the Sharks were named among the 80 teams selected to participate in regional competition as part of the 2019 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships. Nova Southeastern earned the No. 4 seed out of the south region, and will begin its quest for national title No. 3 when the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional opens up at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. on May 9. FULL RELEASE

Van Gurp Tabbed SSC Player of the Year

Having reached the 30-win mark for the first time since 2014, the Nova Southeastern softball team added to its notable season on Thursday, as a pair of standouts were recognized on the All-Sunshine State Conference teams. Second baseman Suka Van Gurp became the fourth player in program history to be selected as the SSC Player of the Year, while sophomore pitcher Miriam Schmoll was named as a member of the All-SSC Second Team. FULL RELEASE

NSU Hosts 34th Annual Scholarship Golf Classic

Hosted at PGA National Resort and Spa, the 34th Annual Nova Southeastern University Scholarship Golf Classic took place on Friday, April 12. The proceeds from the Scholarship Golf Classic directly impact NSU student-athletes by way of scholarships and academic support.

Since its inception, the NSU Scholarship Golf Classic has raised over 6.4 million dollars in endowments funds to benefit the student-athlete scholarship fund. Through live and silent auctions, a raffle the day of the tournament and through generous donations from the event sponsors, the tournament was one of the most successful golf events in recent history.

“The Scholarship Golf Classic is the perfect combination of a successfully ran special event and an outpouring of philanthropic support, all while supporting a great benefactor – the student-athletes of NSU,” boasted Director of Athletics Michael Mominey. “We have been so fortunate to have so many friends of the university who have been supportive of the event for so many years, I am humbled to be part of the greater purpose and lead a preeminent athletic program with great student-athletes who are ambassadors of our university on and off the field of play”.

The support and success of the Scholarship Golf Classic is essential to the sustainable success of NSU’s NCAA Division II athletic program. Nova Southeastern currently sponsors 17 teams, as well as the Sharkettes spirit squad. The Sharks have captured eight NCAA Team National Championships, 21 Individual NCAA National Championships, and 36 Sunshine State Conference Championships.

NSU student-athletes live the core values and vision of the university by realizing their potential on and off the field and. In addition to athletic accomplishments, they are driven to perform at the highest level in academics. As a result, NSU Athletics has achieved a collective departmental GPA of 3.0 or higher for the past 16 consecutive years and for the past three years have achieved a 3.20 GPA or higher.
