USchool Robotics Teams Prepare for World Championships

The NSU University School Upper and Middle School robotics teams won the state championship and are now preparing for the world championships. This marks the third consecutive state championship victory, elevating the program to Dynasty level—the highest achievement a robotics program can attain. Five University School robotics teams will be participating in world championships for the 11th consecutive time.

University School Students Volunteer at Feeding South Florida

NSU University School’s fifth-grade students immersed themselves in a collaborative volunteering experience at Feeding South Florida. The students inspected, sorted, boxed and stacked more than 16,000 pounds of food, addressing the needs of the area’s food-insecure population. The students  also organized a fundraiser, contributing $2,500 to support Feeding South Florida.

University School Model U.N. Team Takes Top Honors

NSU University School’s Middle School Model United Nations team competed at the NIRAMUN Conference at NSU and took home top honors for their speaking, conflict resolution and position paper, “Combating Food Insecurity Amid Rising Natural Disasters.”

University School Recognized for News Story Submission

Congratulations to University School Network students Benjamin Chitoff (’24), Ethan Scharf (’26), Jonathan Benaim (’26) and Max Fletcher (’26). They received an honorable mention in the news story category for their submission about inflation in South Florida’s real estate market in the Student Television Network Challenge Contest. Olivia Peters (’24) earned an honorable mention for her “Helping Horses” public service announcement.

University School Teachers Attend Institute in New York City

Two Lower School teachers recently attended a weeklong institute at Teachers College Columbia University in New York City. They participated in professional development workshops focused on supporting small group work in reading and writing. Additionally, members of our administrative team presented at the FCIS convention, emphasizing the identification of core competencies to drive experiential learning.

First grade partnered with Upper School students to make holiday cards with messages of gratitude for our local heroes. The cards were delivered to firefighters, police officers, health care workers, and Publix employees.

USchool Students Get Hands-On Suturing Experience at NSU

Students from our Upper School Medical Fellowship program recently took part in a lab at the NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, where they gained hands-on experience in suturing techniques using pig’s feet.

This practical exercise was designed to enhance their skills in dexterity, precision, and understanding of different suturing methods.

USchool Students Meet Public Defender of Broward County

Gordon Weekes, the head Public Defender for Broward County, speaks to University School students.

Upper School students participating in the Legal Education Seminar had the privilege of engaging in a conversation with Gordon Weekes, who holds the position of head Public Defender for Broward County.

Weekes is a distinguished graduate of the Shepard Broad College of Law at Nova Southeastern University and is responsible for overseeing a team of more than 100 public defenders in the second-largest public defense office in Florida. During his interaction with the students, he shared his lifelong commitment to advancing equitable justice for marginalized communities within our region.

USchool Student-Run Company Among National Finalists

The NSU University School Junior Achievement student-run company, ProFin Technologies, achieved great success at the Junior Achievement Nationals in Washington D.C. They secured a place among the top 10 National Finalists, and also received the first place award for ICE (Intercontinental Exchange) Best Financial Performance. The team recently presented their charitable giving, from net sales of more than $25,000, to their corporate partner, United Way of Broward County.
