USchool Seniors Advanced in National Merit Scholarship Program

Christian and Sarah represent the top 1% of program entrants and will be considered for Merit Scholarship awards based on their academic abilities, skills, and accomplishments. It’s been an eventful couple of weekends for our Speech and Debate team. Sixteen students competed at the FFL Region Qualifier and qualified to compete at the Varsity State Championship tournament. Students also earned top recognition at the Stanford Invitational where they competed against students from schools across the country.

Jaimie Crawford, Upper School Director; Ann Marie Sellers, Director of Student Academic Services; and Andrew Stephens, Director of Experiential Learning, presented at the Independent Schools Experiential Education Network (ISEEN) Winter Institute in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. Their presentation entitled “Identifying Core Competencies to Drive Experiential Education” was selected for the Model Programs and Practices Workshop, and showcased innovative curriculum from our math, social studies, and world language departments.
NSU University School, has launched the Mako Prize YA (young adult) for Middle School students who share a deep connection with literature. The Mako Prize is a reading tournament co-founded by Director of Student Academic Services Ann Sellers that aims to help readers discover new books and foster a community of and for readers.


Upper School teacher Tara Ellsley was awarded the French Teacher of the Year award at the Florida Foreign Language Association annual conference where she led a workshop titled Diving Into a Class Novel: My First Attempt. Congratulations, Tara, on this outstanding recognition at the state level!
Congratulations to our Upper School Thespian Troupe 5697 on their success at the District 13 Festival, hosted on our campus. Students earned 1 Critic’s Choice, 1 Honorable Mention, 16 Superiors, and 10 Excellents in various theatrical categories.
